Kaamos, the Season of Soft Light

Kaamos is Lapland's darkest season, yet it is never truly dark. The sun barely rises, and the day becomes one long dawn melting into dusk. The snow gathers every trace of light and glows in gold, rose and deep blue.

The Northern Lights Season

Lapland lies beneath the aurora's path, and long, clear winter nights bring it closest. The Finns call it revontulet, fox fires, after an Arctic fox whose tail sweeps sparks from the snow into the sky.

Golden Days by the River

In midwinter, the sky over the frozen river turns pastel. Peach, pink and lilac drift above the snow, and the hanging bridge to the island glows softly in the colours only kaamos can paint.
